This is yet another example on plane integration.
In plane integration you use different planes in a scene to make a picture with a coherent message beyond the message you would have got if you took two separate pictures of the planes involved.
Clearly, the relevant planes in this image are a) the one holding the two ladies in the foreground, sitting, and b) the other one holding the two much younger ladies in the painting behind them. One sitting.
