NB! This is the Overall Agenda for the workshop June 20 – 23, 2013.
Time is running.
Before you know it will be spring and then June. The Workshop will be on.
Well, it will be more of a Workshop 2.0 because there will be three sections. Before we meet in Berlin there will be a PreShop Section, then the Actual Workshop Section in Berlin, and finally a PostShop Section at your own place.
Before I dive into what these three sections are suggested to include, let me express the overall idea and some targets for The Workshop:
The Overall Idea:
The overall idea is that we prepare before we go to Berlin, do the actual shooting in Berlin and finishes after with a ready to publish photo story of the theme and style in question. The photo story can be divided in individual, personal sections or we can work on the whole thing as a group. That is a decision we will have to make.
In both cases there are room for plenty of individually.
The End Product:
The end product will be a virtual publication. There are many ways to go. A wordpress blog could be one of them. I would suggest that since it is pretty easy to make. This publication will be the workshop diploma. For all to see.
Target for Berlin:
The target for Berlin is that workshop participants shall travel home with at least 15 very good to eminent photographs. They should be Itching Images. After some minor editing they should be ready to go into the final publication.
These 15 shots shall be a reflection of a) the theme chosen as well as b) of tools in the toolpool.
(When Robert Frank did his The Americans he shot some 28.000 photos and selected 87 for publication. It took him 2 years to shoot. I would say that 15 good images is a good aim to have.)
Secret Group for Communication
A secret group will be set up on Facebook to carry the communication for the whole process. Invitations will be sent directly to the participants. Being secret means that only members can see it. This group can be set up at any time.
The tools to be used are those listed in Street Photographer’s Toolbox. This very site.
Special attention should be made to the idea of Itching Images since we definitely want to end up with an itching photo story.
Other objectives will be communicated directly to participants.
Tone Of Voice
The tone of voice is to be easy, light and possible humorous. It shall be full of city life.
The PreShop Section
The PreShop Section is the planning period. You will have to decide on your project. And other stuff as well. We do that before we go to Berlin to gain valuable shooting time when we are there. In your head you should drill some of the itching, visual models. Some do it for real already.
The WorkShop Section
The workshop in Berlin will mainly consist of executing different types of itching images with the overall target that they shall have a quality and a distinctness that makes the best of them suitable for publication.
Berlin will be all about street photography. Not talking about, but doing it. Morning to late in the evening. Please see the detailed draft program.
The PostShop Section
The PostShop Section is when you refine your images, makes selection in and of them and prepare for publication. Maybe global adjustments and crops in Photoshop or Lightroom or other editor. There is no reason why we should to this when we are in Berlin and loose valuable street time. So, that will come after.
And then there is the important issue of a picture flow for the final publication. I am sure that good discussions could will be had.
That is roughly it ladies and gentlemen. If you have questions send me a line, or make a comment to this post. Any way you want it.
This workshop will only take a limited number of people. I suggest 4 to 6. All have to be brilliant people born in and with a smiling, curious mood. Luckily most of us are (in one way of other :-)).
If you want in on this workshop you have to send me a line. Or two. If we become more than 6 participants another workshop will be arranged later in 2013.
Ask for hotel recommendations and where to stay.
