Itching Image: Writing On The Wall

The Quote.© Knut Skjærven.

We have always learned that photography is about visual. And so it is.

However, visuals never come alone. They never come without words. Words are generated in your mind as you look at things and try to understand them. That is one way in which words connect.

You can also choose to photograph words and make them part of your picture in a more direct way. In such situations they are both visuals and words at the same time. Like in this shot from the café at the Helmut Newton Museum in Berlin. Shot in April 2012.

Many of you know Henri Cartier-Bresson. He is quoted on the wall. Photography does not really interest me, he said, only life does. A rough translation.

And so I added some life to his quote.

This image is itching because there is a clear connection with what you read on the wall what you see in the picture. Visuals never come alone.
